Art-Ease is Knowle West Health Park Company’s arts on referral programme. The sessions are for anyone living in south Bristol, who is experiencing mild to moderate mental health issues. Art-Ease is particularly beneficial to people who are feeling stressed, experiencing low mood or depression; coping with a bereavement or loss, managing long term health issues, feeling lonely or isolated, dealing with change or if you are a carer.
Art-Ease is led by an experienced local artist who will help you grow your confidence and build self-esteem whilst having a good time learning new art skills. No previous arts experience is necessary.
Sessions are £1 and all art materials are supplied.
The referral process/Getting Referred
In order to attend Art-Ease you must complete a referral form. You can do this yourself by downloading a form from our website and send it to firstname.lastname@example.org or by ringing 0117 377 2255 or a health or community worker can do this for your, eg, GP, health visitor, community worker.
Referral forms will be passed to the lead artist who will contact you directly to assess your suitability and establish any support needs you may have. Your data is held securely and confidentially. You may have to wait for a space to become available in one of our groups, but our lead artist will advise you on how long this might be.
Where are sessions held?
Art-Ease Groups are informal and creative art sessions which take place at Knowle West Healthy Living Centre, Downton Road, Knowle, Bristol, BS3 2JX. Knowle West Healthy Living Centre is an accessible building for wheelchair users, and our art room is fitted with a loop system.
Sessions are held:
Tuesday 9.45am to 11.45am
Wednesday 9.45am to 11.45am Our groups run on a rolling programme. This means that our groups are ongoing with people joining groups and leaving groups at different times.
Once you have completed Art-Ease sessions there are number of ways you can continue to enjoy your art:
Shine@Mshed, The Mshed, Monday 10.30am – 12.30pm fortnightly
Art-Inde Groups – for people who are able to work independently within a group with little or no support (apart from the compansionship of fellow group members) (Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons)
What should I expect?
Art Ease groups provides a safe place for you to enjoy and explore your “creative side” regardless of whether you have any previous experience or not. Our lead artist will help you explore a variety of different kinds of visual arts and will support you to explore and learn new skills. It provides a safe space to have a little time-out, in a supported group, to mix with others and to feel excepted. A cup of tea or coffee is always on hand.
Our lead artist will talk with you by phone, before you come to the group, to tell you a little more about what to expect, and to check that the group will be of benefit to you. The same artist will be there to welcome you to your first session.
Knowle West Healthy Living Centre (run by Knowle West Health Park Company) also run a holistic range of health and wellbeing services. Your lead artist will be able to tell you more about these, and refer you to these if you feel these would be of value to you.
